Florida Taxes

Florida's Constitution requires that the government of the State operate within a balanced budget. Deficit spending, for state operations, is strictly forbidden. Similarly, Florida's political subdivisions (cities and counties) must operate within balanced budget restrictions. This fiscal responsibility assures Florida residents that there will be no surprises or large adjustments in taxes when payment time comes. Various taxes and the authority to collect them are divided among the State government, city and county governments, school boards and various special taxing districts.
